This is one of a new series I'm working on....Small paintings of Spirit Houses. These are imaginary places of residence, or places where imagination resides. A place of safety, dreams, the future of development perhaps.

This is an 8 1/2 by 11 fantasy quilt, where I imagine myself going backwards in time and boldly singing and playing piano fearlessly! Never happened in real time, but I enjoyed the pretending! I used a photo of Elton at his piano and added a few personal details, like my face at seven and a poem, etc.

It's been ages since I last added anything to my blog...time to change all that. Since I moved back to Southern Ca in Sept., I've been occupied iwth adjusting, etc. Bug I'm going to try to keep up to date at least once a month.

This is a small (5"x7") painting of Wade (related by marriage, don't know what the offical relationship really is)....I made this from a photo I took of him cooking and I added the chef's hat, since he is a consummate cook and that is a aspect of him I like very much.

I paint and draw because I love paper and pens and pencils and brushes and scissors. But then, I love fabric too...and thread and ribbons, not to mention buttons. I'm fond of anything that can make something else.

I learned to sew when I was in Olive View Santatarium recovering from Tuberculosis. I was 19 years old. Another patient was a Home Ec teacher and I suppose, to keep herself busy, she taught me to sew. I don't remember her name, but I'll never forget her. I took to sewing easily, I think because my mother sewed and I must have watched her from the time I was a baby. And oddly, she too had Tuberculosis, though she wasn't fortunate enough to recover. So perhaps her touch was there and some kind of cosmic sewing circle was invented, that I was, unknowingly, a part of.

This is a great help for dogs and cats who live such hard lives in Tijuna, Mexico, as well as surrounding areas. I know the volunteer, Michelle Grycner, who creates the web site and volunteers so much of her time, and know this is a worthy and valuable service to many very poor and neglected dogs. They can always use donations.

Their motto is: You cannot change the world by helping one animal, but can change the world for that animal.
